St. Bernard Soap Box Derby Rally
September 13, 2008

Aug 24, 2008, Cincinnati, Oh -- Rally racing returns to the Ohio side of Greater Cincinnati next month as the City of St. Bernard hosts it’s first Soap Box race in the 75-year history of the Derby.

A number of St. Bernard officials were ecstatic that a youth from their city, Sam Newberry, finished second in the Super Stock division of the local Cincinnati Derby in June and also captured the Rookie of the Year honors. They inquired to CSBD about having a race and when they found out it was possible, Councilman Don Tobergte started looking for a hill.

Tower Avenue was suggested and ultimately decided on as the hill for the September race. Click map below for directions.

The plans are for the race to start just below Jefferson Ave and finish at McClelland, in front of the Eagles Club. The runout area will be the block between McClelland and Cleveland and the Pit Area for the cars will be the last block leading up to Ross Ave. Tower Ave will be blocked from all

local traffic for the entire day. Derby organizers expect the event to last until 6 p.m Saturday evening

Area youths, ages 8 through 17 years old, interested in racing are urged to purchase a kit and get it built for the race. There are two divisions: Stock for smaller kids, ages 8 to 13 and Super Stock for larger kids, ages 10 thru 17. A Masters Division will also be racing but that is for more experienced racers.

Kits can be purchased through the All American Soap Box Derby in Akron. Order online at www.aasbd.org. Kits and wheels typically arrive within 2 to 3 days after order, with ground shipping.

A construction clinic, scheduled for Saturday Sept. 6, has been cancelled.

Cost to enter is $35 per race per driver. Siblings of drivers can also enter for a reduced price of $30 per race. Download the PDF registration form at right and mail OR register online HERE and pay with credit card.
