The local Cincinnati Soap Box Derby™ will hold competitions in two divisions: Stock Division and Super Stock Division. The Masters Division will not be offered in 2006 at the Cincinnati event but may be added in later years.
The Stock Division:
Participants must be 8 years old by the date of the first Local or Rally race in which they participate and must not turn age 14 in the current race year. The maximum weight limit for Stock driver and car is 200 pounds.
The Stock is considered the entry-level division although there is no rule that rookie participants have to start in the Stock Division.
The Super Stock Division:
Participants must be 10 years old by the date of the first Local or Rally race in which they participate and must not turn age 18 in the current race year. The maximum weight limit for Super Stock driver and car is 230 pounds.
The Super Stock division represents the more advanced division although, similarly, there is no rule that prevents rookie participants from starting in the Super Stock Division. Depending on age, this may be their only choice.
Participants may progress upwards from the Stock division to the Super Stock Divisions. Participants, however, are not permitted to regress to the Stock division once they have raced in Super Stock*
*There are exceptions to this rule in 2006 for experienced racers. See rule book for clarification.
