The Soap Box Derby is a youth racing program which has run nationally since 1934.
Every year, kids from all over the country build simplified cars built from kits and race them in local races, such as the event that will take place in Louisville in June.
The race cars are powered by gravity and are timed as they roll down either a dedicated track or a temporary street circuit.
The goals of the Soap Box Derby program have not changed since it began in 1934. They are to teach youngsters some of the basic skills of workmanship, the spirit of competition and the perseverance to continue a project once it has begun.
2009 marks the 20th anniversary of the Mini Grand Prix, which was developed in Cincinnati as a major fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation The MGP has continued in that fundraising role ever since.
The success of the Cincinnati event in 1989 was exported to cities across the United States. at its peak, Mini Grand Prix events were being hosted by the Arthritis Foundation in 32 cities every year.
While interest in other cities has waned, the enthusiasm in the MGP’s founding city continues to be strong today as the MGP returns to Downtown Cincinnati for the first time since 2004.
Thank you for your support of this great fundraising event.
